It has a mayor\/city council form of government. <em>History<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Originally called either Weldon or Cobb, Westover was established in 1901 as a mail and passenger stop on the Atlanta, <a href=\"http:\/\/encyclopediaofalabama.org\/article\/h-1421\">Birmingham<\/a> and Atlantic <a href=\"http:\/\/encyclopediaofalabama.org\/article\/h-2390\">Railroad<\/a>. It derives its name from the railroad.
